Wealth Planning
Wealth planning is about linking what your family has built to what you want for the future. This involves decisions regarding investments, property, businesses, succession and life in different countries.
Carpa’s Wealth Planning department brings together an interdisciplinary team, led by a partner lawyer and their team, to understand this reality, identify needs and transform objectives into an action plan.
We help you evaluate options and coordinate with external lawyers, accountants and other specialists involved in implementing the solutions. We oversee each project to ensure that decisions take into account the estate as a whole and the specific circumstances of each family unit.
1. Estate assessment and family financial planning
Understanding your family and your estate is the first step in planning.
We gather information and listen to family members to understand their needs, priorities and the decisions that need to be made.
- We map out investments, property, shareholdings in companies, wealth structures and liabilities.
- We speak to each family unit to understand their specific objectives and needs.
- We analyse how the wealth is organised and identify areas requiring attention, opportunities for simplification and matters that need monitoring.
- We draw up a family financial plan, linking resources and commitments to each family’s plans.
- We define priorities and next steps, recommending the necessary professionals for each area.
2. Succession planning and family continuity
Preparing to pass on assets and ensure the family’s continuity.
We support the organisation of succession, taking into account the assets, structures and people involved, both in Brazil and abroad.
- We help to evaluate options for the transfer of assets, in collaboration with solicitors and other specialists.
- We coordinate the drafting and review of wills and other succession documents across the relevant jurisdictions.
- We organise a continuity plan for situations of death or incapacity, mapping out accounts, businesses, documents, service providers and the necessary arrangements.
- We support the spouse and heirs in preparing for the future, ensuring they know who to turn to and what steps to take.
- Together with specialists, we assess options to ensure the family has the resources to cover their expenses and commitments during the transition.
- In specific engagements, we can act directly or through recommended professionals in the execution of wills, where such action is permitted.
3. Organisation of asset structures in Brazil and abroad
Structures tailored to your objectives, with ongoing support following implementation.
We help assess how the family’s assets and investments should be organised and coordinate the professionals responsible for setting up, reorganising and maintaining the chosen structures.
- We assist with the assessment of asset holding companies, investment firms and other vehicles in Brazil and abroad, taking into account your objectives, costs and maintenance requirements.
- We coordinate the specialists involved in the establishment and reorganisation of these structures.
- We oversee forms, registrations and corporate documentation, liaising with trustees, directors, auditors and accountants.
- We support projects involving a change of jurisdiction and the reorganisation of international structures.
- In specific projects, we may act directly or through professionals appointed as directors of companies abroad, in accordance with local requirements and the terms of engagement.
4. Taxation and tax residence
An integrated approach to decisions spanning countries and different tax regimes.
An international lifestyle requires that decisions regarding residency, investments, companies and succession be assessed holistically. Carpa connects the professionals involved so that these issues are considered within a single strategy.
- We help identify the financial and tax implications of moving to another country and changing tax residency.
- We assist with the selection and coordinate the work of accountants and tax advisers in the relevant jurisdictions.
- We organise the flow of information regarding assets, income, transactions and tax and foreign exchange obligations.
- We monitor changes to tax regimes and the need to adapt family structures accordingly.
- We carry out a conceptual review of the work presented by specialists, verifying its alignment with the planning objectives and information.
- Together with the relevant professionals, we monitor the analysis of tax credits from taxes paid in other countries, where applicable.
5. Family and corporate governance
Clarity regarding responsibilities, decision-making and the relationship between the family, assets and businesses.
We support families wishing to organise their wealth management and establish processes to address the interests and needs of different family members and generations.

- We act as strategic advisers on projects to reorganise the governance of family groups.
- We coordinate discussions with advisers, solicitors and other professionals responsible for implementing the solutions.
6. Integration of wealth and investments
Investment decisions aligned with the family’s organisation and plans.
We work closely with the Investments department to assess how the investment portfolio and wealth structures relate to the family’s needs.

- We monitor the implementation stages and any matters requiring review over time.
7. Execution of wills and monitoring of offshore trusts
A consistent presence to ensure your provisions are upheld and the interests of beneficiaries are safeguarded.
In addition to supporting succession planning, Carpa or its partners may assume specific roles in monitoring the structures and executing the provisions defined by the client, in accordance with the client’s choice and the rules of each jurisdiction.
